Fabric Earth Factors
- Modal is soft man-made fiber that is made from natural materials and is completely biodegradable, so it is environmentally sustainable. It is derived from the inner pulp of beech trees and does not take away valuable land for growing food as it is a naturally occurring plant. One kilogram of beech pulp makes approximately one kilogram of modal (a yield that is 10 times higher than raw cotton). The tree will grow naturally on less than perfect land and reproduce itself without any human interaction, meaning there is no replanting required. Modal is generally considered a more eco-friendly alternative to cotton because beech trees don't require much water to grow and therefore the production process uses about 10-20 times less water. It, too, is produced in a closed-loop system that emits fewer harmful byproducts into the environment
Fabric Human Factors
- Modal fibers play a huge role in the absorbency of the fabric and have an excellent moisture-wicking profile. Moisture absorbing fabrics, like modal, have antibacterial properties and are a good choice for eczema-prone skin and sweaty or active people because they are designed to collect and wick away moisture quickly in a concentrated area. It’s twice as soft and 50% more water-absorbent than cotton.
